Leadership Coaching

Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn, rather than teaching them.
— Sir John Whitmore, 2009

Why coaching?

  • 85% of top managers who receive coaching perform better than their peers in soft skills (Accenture, 2019; Ashridge Executive Education, 2019).

  • 86% of companies report a positive ROI from coaching, including areas such as productivity, performance, workforce engagement, retention and communication (The Institute of Coaching).

As long as there are clear goals, we can coach towards achieving those goals. We coach leaders:

  • Who are transitioning to a new leadership position.

  • Who want to further develop specific behaviours, such as resilience or communications skills.

  • Who wish to reflect on and gain greater insight on their current leadership strengths and/or add to their leadership toolbox.

  • Who are experiencing a tricky leadership situation and require additional support.

What is not covered by coaching: Technical/clinical skills and performance management. We encourage you to check if this service is provided by your professional group.

  • I enjoy helping people bring their best self to work to achieve their goals. I have worked across a range of industries and the full spectrum of People & Capability. I have experience coaching people across all levels, from those early in their careers who demonstrate leadership potential, through to coaching executives as part of leadership development assessment centres throughout Australasia.

My aim is to help create a frame of reference or a view of the world to enable new solutions to be explored. I like asking questions that enable moments of true self-reflection and insight, that at times may challenge people’s thinking. It’s not all about challenge with me though, as I’m equally comfortable working with leaders who are seeking support during times of stress that are impacting wellbeing.

  • Healthcare is a complex sociotechnical system which can be both incredibly rewarding and challenging to work in. I worked in many different hospitals over my 30 year clinical career which includes 14 years in New Zealand and am interested in helping others navigate the personal and professional challenges of working in healthcare, particularly those related to the area of human factors (the things that enhance or reduce human performance, and differentiate us from logical, completely predictable machines), collaboration and communication.

  • I have a background in clinical medicine and in the support of undergraduate and postgraduate learning, particular interprofessional and simulation based learning. I have a long history of being interested in psychology, including why we behave as we do and how can we manage that and I am currently studying a variety of solution based psychological theories at the University of Canterbury for a counselling certificate.
