Applied Leadership Programmes

The most powerful leadership tool you have is your own personal example.

These programmes take your understanding of the theory and practice of leadership and applies it to what you’re currently experiencing as a rangatira [leader] – in real time. Working with various cohorts of 10-12 other health leaders you’ll share common leadership challenges and tautoko [support] each other to strengthen your leadership effectiveness.

By keeping the focus on ‘real-time leadership’ each cohort participant receives tailored coaching, mentoring, and resources to suit their immediate needs - making this an effective and worthwhile programme for any kapa [team] rangatira [leader] working in hauora [health].

Frequently asked questions

  • Various cohorts of Applied Leadership programmes are offered each year. (In the past we’ve offered programmes for Emerging Leaders, Clinical Leaders, Allied Health Leaders, Admin Leaders, Burwood Senior Nursing Leaders etc. The programmes offered each year are determined by participant interest and facilitator capacity.)

These programmes are best suited to staff in leadership positions (including those with responsibilities for managing projects or needing to influence workplans). • Gain insight into your leadership strengths and areas for development.

    • Be supported to effectively apply your leadership knowledge.

    • Practice a range of leadership techniques.

    • Create a supportive health-focussed leadership network.

    • This course can contribute 40 hours towards your clinical professional development requirement.

  • Completion of a ‘leadership assessment’ profile and individual coaching. This provides an overview of your individual leadership strengths and identifies areas for development.

½ day session on leadership content – approach and practice. This provides a foundation and common language for leadership across the cohort; brings ‘new’ leaders up to speed; and allows ‘established’ leaders to reflect on their current leadership practice.

Monthly 2-hour leadership forums. This is the essence of the programme – regularly coming together as a cohort to share leadership successes and challenges with a view to extending your current leadership effectiveness.
