Taking effective minutes means listening attentively, recording relevant points, and presenting them in a systematic, concise, and useful format.

This sounds so simple, yet writing clear and accurate minutes can be challenging especially when discussions and issues get complex and complicated.

This one day course will equip you with helpful tips to take effective minutes making it a simpler and more enjoyable task!

What you will be learning

Through this course you will:

  • Understand the importance of the minute taking role.

  • Identify the requirements of effective meetings.

  • Identify methods to record minutes.

  • Identify different types of minute styles and which is best.

  • Write effective minutes and tips for effective minute writing.

  • Recognise the minute style for committee meetings.

  • Effective use of an action points list.

  • Effective record keeping.

  • Understand the legal issues relating to minute taking.

  • Develop effective agenda formulation.

  • Understand techniques for recording virtual meetings.

What does this course involve?

  • A pre-course workshop task that helps you identify what you want to learn.

  • A one day face-to-face experience.

  • This course can count towards your clinical professional development requirements.

  • Cost - Between $180 - $270 + GST per person Dependent on the numbers

  • Open to: All Canterbury and West Coast DHB staff or anyone working in the wider Canterbury or West Coast health system

Cancellation Policy

  • Learning and Development require two weeks’ notice prior to course date.

  • Courses are usually full and have a waitlist. By giving us plenty of notice allows someone else to benefit from this development opportunity.
